The City maintains a solid waste facility on a hill to the northwest of the townsite.   Items that can be safely incinerated are dumped into a burn pit, while other used items, such as vehicles, tires, appliances and batteries are kept to the side.  There are also three dumpsters located within the town -- one at the harbor, one across from the post office and another at the bottom of the hill going up to the dump. At this time there is not a recycling program in place although there is interest in the idea.

The cost to residents for solid waste service is $15.00 per month or any part thereof while in town.   The service is free for residents aged 62 and older.

**PLEASE NOTE**  THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ASKS THAT YOU PLEASE USE THE DUMPSTERS FOR YOUR HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE.  IF THIS TYPE OF GARBAGE IS LEFT IN THE OPEN BURN PIT, THE WIND, RAVENS AND MAGPIES  END UP DISTRIBUTING IT ACROSS SEVERAL ACRES.
